ADVOCACY UPDATE
As the 118th Congress begins its work, the FBA is assessing its policy goals and planning advocacy efforts, taking into account the new congressional landscape and leadership priorities. Planning for Capitol Hill day – March 23 – is underway, and an introductory webinar is scheduled for January 24 at 3pm ET.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
1. Article I Immigration Court Legislation
We are hopeful that Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), will re-file the Real Courts, Rule of Law Act in the new Congress, and we anticipate renewing the FBA’s support for that legislation in the House, as well as continuing to encourage the introduction of a Senate companion bill to establish a new Immigration Court. FBA will continue to work with a variety of stakeholders in an informal coalition of supporters for this policy proposal. In the event that in this Congress, there is a greater interest in tackling immigration policy generally, FBA will be working to ensure that this concept of an immigration court is part of that debate.
